DLA has created a 5-part Series of healing dialogues that will culminate with a deep dive at a 2-day Virtual Conference in October. These dialogues are by no means meant to be all-inclusive, but will serve as a part of an overall wholistic solution and a positive approach to harnessing our collective energy.  This will be a safe space and place to have difficult but meaningful, open and honest conversations that can become turning points and actionable items that ignite change. The goal of the series is to begin to cultivate a sustainable environment of inclusivity, diversity, equity and belonging.

Workshop Details

We begin the series by providing a historical context of Race and Racism in the United States and how it impacts Cultures, Institutions, Health Systems and Personal perspectives. Our first 2-hour workshop will be led by innovative, thought leader and Community Health Advocate Dr. Olga Davis who will provide contextual background and insights to our topic.  In this interactive workshop, you will engage with others to learn and explore in a safe and educational space.  Be prepared to share experiences, ideas and your own stories with the whole group or in breakout sessions and to connect with open minds and kind hearts.  We look forward to exploring with you Online!

Speaker Biography

Dr. Olga Idriss Davis is passionate about enhancing communication to improve the health and well-being of under-served populations. She is a disciplinary leader in critical cultural studies that explore identity and power and in health literacy. Her work centers on narrative discourse—how humans create identity and co-construct their world through the nature of telling stories. Most importantly, her methodology is grounded in community-based participatory approaches, which are used to explore the nature of health disparities and the role of health literacy, with the goal of achieving an equitable and healthy future for all communities. Dr. Davis is also President of Davis Communication Group, LLC, a multimedia communication consulting company specializing in narrative intervention, critical dialogue and intercultural relations located in Phoenix, Arizona.
